It's wreath sales time again!  Sale begins October 24th and continues until we sell all products.

Important:  There are two sales windows.

BEFORE Thanksgiving wreaths and centerpieces will be available beginning the week of Nov. 13th.

AFTER Thanksgiving wreaths and centerpieces will be available beginning the week of Nov. 27th.

You may pick up wreaths and centerpieces directly from our front porch located at:

All money collected for sales must be turn into Jennifer Walters.  Do not turn in any money to the Troop Treasurer.  All money is due to the Troop by 1/3/18.

The cost of the trip will be $100 per participant.  This includes ziplining, Mega Quest (a huge obstacle course), and two nights in a hotel.  It also includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday. We will stop on Friday night for dinner and scouts will need to pay for that meal.




The troop will be staying in the Radisson Hotel Louisville North in Clarksville, IN.  We will prearrange a set of hotel rooms and occupants for all participants ahead of the trip.  Typically we will appropriately assign four people to one room.  This is short drive to the Louisville MegaCavern.

Just a reminder that if your scout is going to summer camp this year they have to have parts A, B, and C of the BSA physical form completed. This goes for any adults that are spending the week. The camp will not accept photocopies of the form, so it must have "live" signatures on them. Most of the time you can just drop the forms out at the doctors office, and they will fill them out without an appointment, or you can go get a physical at urgent care. Please see the following link to get the forms, I will also have hard copies for Tuesday's meeting.

I fully admit that I dropped the ball on the snow sports merit badge. That has been remedied, and the boys that earned it will receive the award at their next meeting.

If there were any other merit badges that your scout thinks they should have been awarded please have them talk to me at the next meeting. I beg patience please. I will get it figured out if there is an issue.

Good Morning Troop 9 Scouters,

Good evening,

The opening ceremony went really well. We had a flag ceremony after that people who had offsite classes left early.


Next people went to their first class. There were eagle scout merit badges such as citizenship in the world, cooking, and personal management. There were fun ones too like chess, railroad, and aviation.


After the first classes we had lunch which was papa John's pizza, soda, and chips. It was very good.  After lunch there was another set of classes.

After the other troops left we cleaned up the school.  The event couldn't be done without the help of three groups of volunteer people from other troops, volunteers from the U of I, and people from troop 9.

This year’s ski trip was very exciting. The drive up was fairly fast. About roughly 40 people came including parents and siblings. Here is how skiing went.

This year the weather was very warm causing the slopes to be slower. Which was good for people trying out the harder slopes. Josh, Paul, Zack, Evan, and Khalil got there snow sports merit badge. It was really fun to watches skiers ski across water.

After we got done with skiing we had mass. This mass was different. Instead of having a homily father explained the mass as it went on. I couldn’t tell if that made it longer or shorter, but I learned a lot. Then after mass we went back to the hotel where we had pizza and soda for dinner. After that we all either went swimming or to our rooms to relax. All in all it was great trip.

At the Klondike Derby and the latest troop meeting, Mr. Walters talked to the boys about the Campfire Ash ceremony.  If you are interested more information can be found here and a log can be found here.

The cost of the trip will be $90 per scout, $100 per adult who ski, $40 per adult not skiing, and $20 to stay an extra night.  This includes ski rental, lift ticket, and lessons for those skiing.  It also includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday. We will stop on Friday night for dinner and scouts will need to pay for that meal.

How to dress for skiing (Advice from Mr. Loftus):

short-sleeve t-shirt
long-sleeve shirt
sweater
outer jacket / shell (something wind & water repellant)
wind / water proof pant
long underwear
full length socks
gloves

That will provide you with enough cover for any weather conditions.  I expect you will start out cold, but as the day progresses, you will end up in just your t-shirt under your outer shell.  Be prepared to adjust several times during the day.  You probably won't need the sweater at all during the day, but best to be prepared and you might wear it at the end of the day if everything else is soaked through with water.  Also, remove layers as needed to avoid sweating.  Anything getting you overly wet will make you cold and miserable.

Pants should be some sort of wind / water proof pant.  Long underwear can be worn underneath if you're cold.  Be sure to strip layers if you're too warm to avoid sweating.  On a warm day, I typically end up wearing just the wind/water proof pant.

Socks should be a single pair of full length (not ankle length) sport sock.  Don't double up, it only restricts circulation.  When you put on your boots, make sure there are no wrinkles in the sock.  Wrinkles also restrict circulation and can also cause muscle cramps.

Forecast is predicting very warm temperatures, so expect that whatever you ski in will be soaked at the end of the day.  Bring a full change of soft, comfy clothes to the resort to change into after skiing.

Finally, for new skiers, I recommend to bring a pair of "throw-away" gloves if this is your first trip.  Beginner slopes sometimes use a "rope-tow" to get skiers to the top and that will tear up gloves after a few hours.  Also, due to expected warm temperatures, I suggest everyone bring a spare set of gloves so you can swap if one pair gets soaking wet.

In general, wet clothes lead to cold bodies, and that's no fun at all.  Staying dry is essential to enjoying this outing.  Feel free to ask any questions.  The only dumb question is one never asked.
