High Adventure

Boundary Waters Canoe Area

The Troop is planning a trip to the Boundary Waters area of northern Minnesota in July of 2021. This is a once in a lifetime trip for many of our Scouts, an adventure that will challenge them to test themselves against the wilderness.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is a 1M acre wilderness area within the Superior National Forest in northeastern part of Minnesota. A mixture of forests, glacial lakes, and streams, the BWCA is a popular destination for canoeing, hiking, and fishing, and is one of the most visited wildernesses in the United States.

Date:  July 2021
Cost: Approximately $500
Equipment needed:  Personal gear only. The outfitter will provide all equipment for our trip – tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, canoes, cookware, food…

This is not a marathon or an iron man run but it is something out of the ordinary for most of us. Adults planning on attending this trip should keep this in mind. Unless you train regularly, a program including brisk walks and other aerobic activity should be started.

Recommended experience:
 * 13+ years old
 * First Class rank
 * BSA Swimmer (Swimming MB preferred)
 * First Aid MB
 * Camping experience with the troop (Camping MB preferred)
 * Participation in training outings
